We recently asked another one of our designers, Evaline Dadulla, to answer some questions for us. Evaline interned with Linda McDouglad Design | Postcard from Paris Home in the spring of 2011 and later joined the design team in the fall. Evaline provides essential support to several of our designers and has successfully helped with the completion of many of our design projects.
1. If you could only take one thing with you from your home, what's one thing you would grab? I can only think of practical things such as my car keys, phone, or laptop. I guess if it came down to it, I'd take my... phone. I know there will be people gathered around to borrow a cellphone from, but for the life of me, I do not have anybody's number memorized.
2. Where do you draw inspiration from? From the people, places, and things around me. I think it's pretty neat that connections to various people, interactions with different things, and experiences in different places have helped shaped me to think and be who I am today.
3. How would you describe your design style? I usually lean towards contemporary and transitional designs, but I also like aspects of traditional and rustic designs. I think each design style has something good to bring to the table so I try not to pick one over the other, but instead try and figure out when each one would work best in a given situation.
4. What do you love most about working in this industry? My degree is in architecture but I transitioned to the interior design profession because I love seeing the design process from start to finish. I like how one piece can inspire the whole design of a room, how to make different pieces work together as a whole, and how to overcome various design challenges when it comes to blending the designer's ideas and the client's vision.
5. What do you do in your spare time {outside of work}? My spare time is usually occupied with either watching movies, a plethora of TV series, reading books, or hanging out with friends. Baking and trying out new recipes with my boyfriend are fun pastimes, too.
6. What are you currently reading? I am currently reading George Martin's A Game of Thrones. Since I started watching the TV series, I have wanted to know more about the whole story so I started reading the novels. I'm hoping to be able to at least catch up to the series or surpass it before the fourth season premieres next year.
7. I wish that I knew how to... dance, gracefully, without looking like a broken sprinkler or one of those flailing, inflatable tube men. I have no rhythm.
8. Favorite place you have traveled to? It's been nine years since I've been there, but the favorite place that I have traveled to would be the province of my father: Eastern Samar, Philippines. I would visit during summer vacations from school. There is nothing really special about the province itself (aside from the beautiful natural surrounding forests, fields, and falls), but the people and the memories there from my childhood are what makes it one of my favorite places. I still believe that the best bread I have ever eaten exists there.
We appreciate Evaline taking the time to answer these questions. Contact us to work with Evaline or other members of our design team on your next design project.
