Design Inspiration at Hollingsworth Park

Recently, we had the pleasure of teaming up with Greenville-based builder Milestone Custom Homes and Verdae Development to help design an estate home located in The Manor at Hollingsworth Park here in Greenville, SC.

The 11,220 square foot home served as the 2012 inspiration home, showcasing high-performance materials and technology balanced with exceptional style and comfort. The home was open to the public for tours and raised funds for the Greenville Humane Society and the S.C. Mountains to Midlands Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

In case you didn't get a chance to check it out, here is a look inside the home and a little insight into the process of designing it. Linda McDougald and Moe Draz were the lead designers for the project. We asked Moe a few questions about the home and the process behind designing it.

Where did you pull your inspiration for this project?

Moe: Linda and I wanted to do something completely different from what you might see in Greenville.  We had the vision for something that was very fresh and cosmopolitan. I guess you can say that we drew inspiration from interiors you would see in New York or Paris. We wanted an interior that was edited and timeless with a restrained color palate, almost like a tailored Chanel dress.

If you could describe this home with one word, what would it be?

M: Chic

Given the size of the home, what {if any} were the biggest challenges when it came to designing?

M: We furnished the main level of this 11,000-square-foot home. The biggest challenge was determining the layout of the kitchen in relationship to the living room.  The space is very open and we wanted to keep the open feeling of the space, continuity, but at the same time create a distinction between them.

What was your favorite room to design?

M: My favorite room to design was the master suite. I think the room most resembles the design concept I described earlier. I love the restrained color palette and the ebony wood finishes. I think they act like a frame that really contains the design and gives it a very finished look. I also love the crystal and silver accents of the chandelier and the lamps. I think they give the room the finishing touch much like pieces of jewelry.

How important are accessories in the overall design of a room?

M: Accessories are a crucial part of every room.  The right type, scale and number of accessories add character and interest to a room. Accessories are like the jewelry that finishes an outfit. You always need a few pieces, but you never want to over accessorize.
